Home Remedies for Colitis










Colitis means a chronic irritation or inflammation of the colon that is term for large or lower intestine. This occurs from protracted inflammation of the covering wall of the colon. Men and Women are equally affected in this disease. Constant ulcerative colitis is very severe inflammation of the colon.

Symptoms of Colitis

The main symptom of colitis is pain in abdomen. Colitis starts in the lower part of the colon and become spreads towards upper parts. Other symptoms are swelling of abdomen, bloody

Causes of Colitis

Colitis is mainly caused by infection. This disease affects the colon and rectum which causes severe pain and irritation. It is also caused by abnormal opening of the immune system in the intestine. One kind of bacteria also causes colitis, which affects the large intestine and produces toxin in the body.

Home Remedies for Colitis

There are some of the home remedies for colitis is as follows.

Banana is a best treatment for ulcerative colitis. Consume one to two banana everyday.

Take a glass of buttermilk everyday which works well for you.

Tender coconut is comforting to the soft mucosa of the colon. So it is better to drink one tender coconut water everyday.

One of the best herbal home remedy for colitis is take a glass of tender coconut water and then mix one teaspoons of fresh juice and honey, then take this mixture at least two to three times in a day.

Make a mixture of a thick gruel of rice mixed with one glass of buttermilk and a ripe banana and take it two times a day. It is very much soothing in colitis because rice has very low fiber contents and it is very nutritious.

Put a juice of wheat grass with lukewarm water and then wait for twenty minutes. The enema is helps to detoxify the wall of the colon and cure any disorder related to colitis.

Steamed apple is another effective home remedy for colitis, because it consists of iron and phosphorous.

Diet for colitis treatment

Follow some good diet for treatment of colitis.

Consume the juices made from papaya, raw cabbage, and carrot. These are very much effective for colitis. Avoid citrus juice.

Take soft cooked or streamed vegetables, rice, porridge, Dalia. Also eat ripe banana and papaya. Eat the foods slowly and chew thoroughly.
