Home Remedies for Pink Eye

Pink Eye, or Conjunctivitis, most often affects children, but it is possible for it to happen to anyone. Pink Eye is when the membranes that cover the whites of the eyes become red and inflamed. There are both viral and bacterial forms of the condition. Some of the symptoms of Pink Eye include swelling, redness, pain, itching and unusual discharge that may turn to crust overnight.

Causes of Pink Eye

Pink Eye can be caused by a number of different things. Viral and bacterial infections are the most common causes. Pink Eye can also be caused by irritants, such as chlorine, smoke, shampoo or almost any foreign substance that gets in the eye. Allergens can also cause Pink Eye to occur. This tends to be a more common cause of Pink Eye among adults.  When Pink Eye is left untreated, it is generally contagious and can be spread from one person to another. This can happen simply by touching an object that someone with Pink Eye has touched and then rubbing the eye.
